Genesis 18:12-14
So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?”
Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”
Can you really blame Sarah for laughing? If you found out you were pregnant in your 90s you would be laughing too, or crying! Sarah thought she was way over the age for birthing babies, even though it was her heart's desire. She saw her limitations and the impossible nature of having this dream come to fruition. Realistically, women, even in biblical times, were not getting pregnant in that ripe old age.
Sarah asks the Lord, "Will I really have a child?" And the Lord answered, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" This scripture reminds us that God is a God of miracles, supernatural power, and sovereignty. The Lord is limitless.
Are you facing a situation in your life that seems impossible? Maybe it is a health diagnosis, financial stress, tumultuous relationships, job loss, or any other number of trials and what seems to be impossible situations that are thrown on your course. Maybe, like Sarah, you have given up on that dream that seems like it's never going to happen. We all have been in Sarah's shoes, and I'm sure, in some way, the Lord has shown you that He can make the impossible possible.
Whatever your struggle is, know that there is nothing too hard for the Lord. God can restore, revive, and manifest absolutely anything. In our human capacity, we can only see the impossibility of a situation and the barriers, but God, in His Divine nature, overrules it all if it is in His will.
Our role is to stay faithful and obedient, to live in hope and not hopelessness. Trust in the power of the Lord in all situations. Whatever hard thing you are going through, God sees it; it matters to Him, and He provides. God goes into the hard places with you; He sits in your presence and gently mends those places that are broken.
Sometimes, we put God in a box; we set our self-imposed human limitations on Him. God can not be contained. He doesn't look at your situation, and say, oh, that a hard one, sorry can't help you! Nor does He work on our timetable. Just like Sarah, who thought that her time had passed for bearing a child, her timetable did not match up with God's timetable. God's will for our lives overrides time, biology, or constraints.
Whatever is hard give it to the Lord in full surrender, be assured that He can handle it. Don't beat yourself up against it; don't dwell in it, but give it to the One who can make all things possible and watch Him work. God is in the hard things right there with us. Nothing is too hard for Him. Friend, I pray that whatever situation is hard for you, whatever is making you lose sleep, whatever seems impossible, know that God overcomes it all. God's light will always break the darkness.
